One of the Pirates Rugby Old Boys, Steve Hollis, approached AFL to partner with the Pirates Sports Club on a food drop initiative to support those less fortunate during the COVID-19 lockdown. We took up the opportunity immediately and what an honour and absolutely humbling experience it was. Many of you will still patiently be adding your goodies to your 40 day gift bags but if you have not started but do not worry about the delay.  We welcome all your donations and if you don’t get to 40 nobody will punish you. 

As we do every year we get together in person or via Zoom and we have a long planning session for the year ahead.  This year prior to our meeting we participated in a large clean up of Hartbeespoort Dam where the hyacinth has been cleaned out but sadly this has left a large amount of plastic and debris floating on the dam. Our team of ladies spent an hour cleaning the dam’s shoreline prior to our meeting.

This year AFL have been the very grateful recipients of funding from Herman Miller (www.hermanmiller.com) for a project in Schoemansville in the North West Province.  We will be building a homework centre for In His Honor (https://www.facebook.com/groups/107860019260625).  This is a place of safety for the homeless but mainly abandoned children. Please follow us on Facebook to watch this amazing development.  It is our single biggest project and we are going to need some assistance along the way but we will keep you posted.
