PROJECT: Little Brinks

2018

We arrived on a hot,  sunny Sunday morning (after more than a few wrong turns) to a warm and welcoming family, headed by Kath Brink and her ever patient and helpful husband and the always smiling Vuyo. Kath is very much on the ground where she is also involved in the local school feeding schemes as well as social work in the townships around Cape Town.

Little Brinks is based on their small holding in Morningstar where they lovingly care for unwanted and abused babies from around the country, for 90 days, until they are rehomed. Fortunately it was a quiet weekend, with the next babies expected mid March 2018 making it the perfect timing to complete our project.

With the assistance of our touring Canadian family of 6 who were so keen to be involved and so generous with fulfilling the wish list, our team re-painted the wall of the baby “safe room” with a tree mural. Little Brinks has adorned the “family tree” with pictures of all the babies that have passed through their home and the babies now have an engaging, light space to rest in.

Legato Consulting kindly provided a lunch of hotdogs and ice-cream, some of which will also be used in the local feeding scheme in the coming days, as well as further donations of nappies and formula. The Adventures for Love Cape Town  ladies were fantastically generous as usual, contributing the paint and equipment, sweets, juice, games, balloons and above all their time, skills and resources.

After further discussions with Kath, we have established that we could help and support her in a few areas and we have dedicated to her that we will do another project later in the year for the Matriculants in the local schools which will foremost involve setting up a “boutique” to outfit them for the special day.
