Adventures for Love (AFL) is a non-profit Organization started by a group of ladies that love an adventure and enjoy spreading love and kindness wherever they go. Their latest project focused in the Phalaborwa area and was aptly named Kruger Kindness. It ran from 11 – 15 April. The specific projects were identified and run by Carine Fraser with a lot of help from the local community. Not only did she organize this whole project but she also hosted the ladies at their private residence in the wonderful Mahlathini Private Game Reserve. We enjoyed every second of of their marvelous piece of heaven. Lots of local support were given in the identification of needs and with the successful completion of various projects. A huge thank you to Anne Alcock, Corne Theron and Sammy (Theron African Safari’s), for all the support and help during this project. Residents from Mahlathini Private Game Reserve helped to make the ladies feel welcome and had a role to play in the adventure aspect of AFL. A huge thank you to Willem Botha, René Coetzee and Anne Alcock for the support.
Firstly large amounts of donations had to be sorted and packed, and 284 pairs of school shoes laced. Thanks to a donation from Corne Theron “Impala-potjie” was made to deliver to 25 residents of the Bouganvilla Old Age Home, Phalaborwa.
Day 2 started with a “shoe drop” at Priesca Combined School, were 284 pairs of school shoes, socks, stationary and sweets were handed out to all the learners in the school. This could not have been done without the help of the Put Foot Rally, Pep stores and the kind donations received. The girls were treated to a “Thank You” meal offered by the local chief, school principal and staff of the school. After lots of hard work it was time for fun to be had….the ladies enjoyed a sunset cruise on the Olifants river and a lovely dinner at Bushveld Terrace.
Day 3 was all about Lulekani Township. The ladies dropped off non- perishables and toiletries, kindly donated by our loyal supporters, at the Khomanani & Horisani Center. They focus on making the lives of children and adults with disabilities better. AFL decorated two rooms at the center to try to brighten up the space in which the adults spend the whole day.
Day 4 special focus was on the Bouganvilla Old Age Home. Gift packs (with gowns, toiletries and sweets), magazines and potjiekos were given to 25 residents. The recreation hall received a face lift with new curtains. Sammy (the guide from Theron African Safari’s) even arranged for AFL to get some amazing exposure on the local radio station 105.1 FM
Day 5 lead focused on reading and development. Early Childhood Development Aids and books were dropped off at the Local Library and donated to Mr. Mokeboekie the librarian who is making the work of difference with his mobile library and literacy programmes in the community. Laerskool Phalaborwa-Noord also received reading books for their media center.
From AFL’s side we would like to say:
