PROJECT: AFL Shoe Drop Leeuwpoort Primary School

On Friday, 9 February, not only did the sun bright in Germiston, but 1300 children’s faces lit up as they were gifted new school shoes, a bag and a smart meal. This wonderful project was done in collaboration with the Put Foot Foundation who provided the shoes.

The Put Foot Foundation is a volunteer-based, proudly South African Public Beneficiary Organisation (PBO) born out of the need to tackle the daily plight and indignity of children with no shoes. They operate across the whole of South Africa, with a particular focus on the less privileged and rural areas often overlooked by charities.

The Germiston Child Welfare identified the Leeuwpoort Primary School in Elandsfontein where most of the learners come from a nearby informal settlement.

The Adventures for Love ladies arrived in force with many bringing their colleagues and staff to assist lace, fit and gift the shoes.

In addition to the shoes, donations were received from Air Health International, Kocojelly, Dullstroom Country Weddings, Polyflor and iFacts for 1300 smart meals. A great initiative started by Jane Doo where for a mere R15 a smart meal can be purchased that will feed a family of 6 a nutritious healthy meal (https://www.smartmealsafrica.co.za/feeding-with-dignity).

We sincerely hope that there were many smiling parents on Friday night as their children with not only new school shoes but a nutritious meal that could feed their family.
