25 Sept 2021
On the 25th September AFL collaborated with Pretoria South Lions Club, their Service Director and Vice President for 2021/22 – Dave McCullough and his wife Gizelle at A Touch from Heaven.
As Dave stated “One of our goals for the Lionistic year was to collude with other Service organisations in joint projects”.
Alice had identified approximately 25 residents who are having problems with their eye sight / glasses. Gizelle proceeded to screen these residents, each test taking a few minutes, obtaining relevant information from each one i.e. how long has the issue been present, when did you last change / upgrade glasses etc.
Once the screening was completed, we were told these tests will be assessed by an optometrist and thereafter appointments will be made with optometrists willing to perform an eye test at reduced rates – Lions have various contacts in this regard and currently that is what is being done.
Lions will liaise with Alice as to when and where the residents can go / be taken for these tests, thereafter glasses will be made (Lions use recycled frames) and we are hoping for an improvement in their eyesight.
Dave and Gizelle were taken on a tour of A Touch From Heaven outlining their mission / goals / needs and Lions are extremely keen to assist where possible, one of the areas being put on a feeding list in order to obtain produce from farmers close by as well as assisting Alice with her bookkeeping issues.
